Laptop or MacBook Won't Turn On. Flinders Repair Guide

3. RAM or Hardware Seating Issues

If your laptop has ever been dropped, jolted, or recently had components added or removed, internal parts can shift out of place. This is more common in desktops and some laptop models with accessible RAM slots, but even a hard knock can dislodge a connection. It's not something we'd recommend attempting yourself, opening the case can void warranties or cause further damage, but it's a quick diagnostic for our technicians.

4. Logic Board or Motherboard Failure

This is the one everyone worries about, and while it does happen, it's less common than people assume. Liquid damage, power surges, or age-related wear can affect the logic board (MacBooks) or motherboard (Windows laptops). The good news is that even logic board and motherboard repairs are often fixable at the component level, rather than requiring a full replacement.

5. A Stuck or Corrupted Boot Process

Sometimes a laptop isn't actually "dead" at all, it's stuck trying to boot and failing silently. This can happen after a bad software update, a failed operating system upgrade, or a corrupted hard drive/SSD. You might notice the fan spinning or lights flickering briefly, even though the screen stays black. This is a very different (and often more affordable) fix than a hardware failure.
